Recently the right front wheel bearing went bad on my 2002 Mazda 626. Apparently my oldest daughter hit a large pot hole bending the wheel and damaging the wheel bearing. I noticed a slight hum in the front end with a slight shutter as well, I thought that the tires needed to be balances and rotated, so I took it into the shop to be checked out. Well to my surprise I was told the bad news and what was worse was the amount they wanted to charge - over 0 to fix bearing and to replace the wheel. That is when I decided to do it myself.

Below I will help you by listing the tools you will need and steps on how to get it done.

Things you will need:

Large adjustable wrench

Channelocks

Bearing race driver tool

Various size punches

Socket and ratchet set

Assorted wrenches

A rags or two

New wheel bearings

Wheel bearing grease

New cotter pin

New grease seals

Wheel blocks

Safety glasses

A jack and a pair of jack stands

Even if the bearings are not making a noise it is always a good idea to have them inspected every 30,000 miles. I have it done when my breaks are replaced.

Okay let's get started.

Get all of your tools and supplies together before you begin and allow plenty of time to do the job.

Please take note that these are general instructions and consult the appropriate repair manual for your vehicle.

Always think safety first whenever you're working around machinery. Wear safety classes to protect your eyes and beware of hot objects, sharp items and hazardous materials. It is very, very important to never work on a car that is only supported by a jack, always place a sturdy foundation under the vehicle to prevent it from falling on you.

From this point on cleanliness is important. You do not want any dirt, sand or metal chips inside the hub.

1. Remove your disc brake calipers and caliper bridge to remove the rotor.

2. Remove the bearing cap. This is a press fit and to remove it grab it with your channelocks and work it back and forth until it pops off. Be careful not to crush it.

3. Once the cap is off you will see a cotter pin, remove the cotter pin and remove the retainer ring. If your vehicle has a castellated nut, you will not have a retaining ring.

4. Using your channelocks or adjustable wrench, remove the nut from the spindle.

5. Next remove the outer wheel bearing and washer.

6. Slide the rotor or drum off the spindle.

7. Remove the grease seal and take out the inner wheel bearing.

8. Wipe all the old grease from inside the hub.

9. Remove the bearing races from the hub.

10. Take a punch with a flat narrow tip and place it on the back of the race.

11. Tap the race out, alternating from side to side so it comes out evenly and doesn't get cocked in the hub.

12. Once it's out, flip the rotor or drum over and do the same for the other race.

13. Clean the inside of the hub with some rags.

14. Make sure the spindle is clean as well.

That's all there is to it. Like I mentioned earlier take your time and you will not get frustrated, good luck with your project.

Picking stocks is a lot like buying a car. When you buy a car, you can't just go with the first one that's the right color - you need to know about it. You want to check under the hood, or at least kick the tires. If you don't know about cars, you bring along your brother or your dad or someone who does. Most importantly, you take your time. If you're not sure about the mileage or the sound from the exhaust you pass it up and wait for a better deal. It's no different when you pick stocks.

The first thing you need before you buy shares in a company is a stock trading account. For this, you need a broker. If it's your first time, I recommend using a discount broker. This type of broker will process your buy and sell orders, and little else. Where do you go to find a stock broker? Try your bank. There might be other less expensive options, but your bank is a place you feel comfortable, and you know how it works. Chances are if you have an account there they can help you start a share trading account easily and at a low cost. I trade shares using online banking.

For your first purchase, you want to buy what you know. Look at 3 companies that you like - companies you have bought things from or know people at. Pick up a newspaper and write these four things down:

Price- If the shares are 0 a piece, you might want to skip this one for now. Year's Move (YM) - This is how much the share grew in value last year, and a fairly good indication of what the company will try to beat this year. Dividend Yield (DY) - This is a percentage of the value of each share that the company pays to shareholders each year. Some shares don't pay dividends, but make up for it with more growth (if the company doesn't pay shareholders it can spend that money making the company more valuable). Price/Earnings (PE) - This is simply the price of the share divided by how much the company made in this financial year. This figure can be misleading depending on current phase of the financial year, but basically a low Price/Earnings ratio means that the company's stock is valued about right for how much money the company is making.

Either that or the share is undervalued and could go through the roof any day now. If the ratio is high it means that the company has a lot of projected growth, but little actual profits so far. This was common during the "internet bubble" when companies had huge prospects but hadn't made any money yet.

Once you have these, it's time to look at some graphs. Go to the company's website, and click on "Investor Relations". Download everything, and look at graphs of their share price and dividend payouts for the last year, 3 years and 5 years.Now read the newspaper. Not the front page, the boring bits at the back about money. Most of these articles are fairly easy to read, and reading them for a few weeks will give you a pretty good idea of what's going on in the world of high finance.

Picking stocks is about more than knowing the company. It's about knowing what's going on in the world that will affect the company. Now it's time to decide on your goals and make a buy case. First, write what you want out of your investment. Do you want to build capital over 10 years, or do you want to double your money in a year, but with the risk of losing half of it? If you are the former, then you are a growth investor. Otherwise you are a value investor. You might be somewhere in between, but since this is a first purchase it would be a good exercise to pick stocks according to a strict investment philosophy.

Now your buy case: This is an argument for and against buying the shares. In it you need to write:

What's going on in the company with regards to new business, new directors, new enterprises, new debt, new acquisitions/sales of subsidiaries etc. What's happening in the world that could affect the company's ability to make money The worst thing you can imagine happening. Think of the one thing that would make your company's stock plummet more than anything else. As many pessimistic ideas as you can think of for why you should not buy these shares Why you think it is a good time to buy shares in this company now

Lastly, before you buy shares, ask people. Ask someone who works for the company or ask an investment advisor, even if you have to pay them. If there is even one factor that you have not considered, your entire share trading experience could be very painful.

Remember, buying shares is not gambling if you know the rules. Understand your risks, and don't take any you cannot afford to make. Avoid startups for a first investment - save the riskier stocks for when you are more confident.

During a recent televised debate on healthcare reform between pundits on a popular 24-hour news channel, the topic of health care rationing came up. The anti-government-option pundit pointed out the necessity of rationing under the proposed legislation. The pro-government-option pundit retorted, "There already is rationing in the system. It's just rationed according who can afford to pay."

The significance of this exchange was the acknowledgment that there already is a healthcare shortage in this country. As noted economist Thomas Sowell once pointed out; "The first rule of economics is that there is never enough supply to meet demand. The first rule of politics is to ignore the first law of economics."

Without discussing the merits of any form of healthcare rationing, rationing is part of our medical system and will be a greater part of our system regardless of how health care reform manifests.

1. Free Market Rationing

Under the free market approach, healthcare is rationed, as the above pundit noted, according to who can pay. We also have programs of Medicare and Medicaid, as well as the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) that disrupts the free market; however, as a generous nation, we are prepared to help the poor. Volumes have been written discussing both the merits and evils of the free market system and we're not prepared to tackle that issue here - yet.

2. Government Rationing

When the Obama administration speaks of reducing "inefficiencies" or "cutting costs" they speak of doing that through some sort of review board. That review board would, ostensibly decide which treatments are economical and which aren't thereby limiting available health care options. There's also discussion of the QALY program or Quality-Adjusted Life Years where the cost of one's treatments is weighted against the amount of years the individual may be reasonably expected to live. QALYs are used in Great Britain as a means of rationing healthcare. The Obama administration understands that there must be some form of rationing to manage costs. As Thomas Sowell would point out, when you take the price component out of any transaction you create shortages. There's no greater example of this than during the '70s when a well-meaning government fixed the price of gasoline and the result was long lines and people waiting for hours to fill their tanks.

3. Rationing by Inconvenience

When seeking the services of a health care becomes just too much trouble or nearly impossible, we call that rationing by inconvenience. The following anecdote related to my by a relative says it all. This is from a military family whose healthcare was entirely government-provided:

"Trust me when I tell you that I lived through this already. Back during the Carter years, the only health care option we had was military medicine.

If you needed to see a specialist, you had to call the main appointment desk starting at 8:00AM on the first day of the month. The phone number would obviously be continuously busy, so you'd sit there redialing for hours.

Once you eventually got through, 90% of the time the appointments for that month would already be filled. So, you'd have to wait until the first day of the next month and try again. This would go on month after month until you eventually realized that you were never getting an appointment and would go to a private practice specialist and pay out of pocket.

A friend's husband was an Army doctor and he explained that it's a conscious decision called "rationing by inconvenience." They won't tell you flat out that you can't see a specialist, but will make it virtually impossible so that you would either give up entirely or would go pay for your own treatment."

Are You Prepared?

One of the real crises of the current healthcare system is a lack of adequate health care providers. As government looks for ways of lowering cost without ways of encouraging more providers to enter the market, further shortages are inevitable. Rationing by cost, inconvenience, or government board all means that healthcare services will be more difficult for the public to obtain.

!±8± How to Replace Your Pontoon's Vinyl Seats and Save Money, Too

When my husband and I purchased a 1998 Fisher pontoon boat for what we thought was a steal, the first thing we needed to do is replace the dry-rotted vinyl on all the seats. The pontoon had been sitting in the sun for eight years and every seat had vinyl that was cracked and split with the foam rubber padding exposed, rotting, and disintegrating each time it was touched. It did not provide for a comfortable seating arrangement; after all, the reason you purchase a pontoon is to be able to take all your friends along with you on the river. When we visited the nearby marine upholstery shop we were shocked to discover that it was going to cost upwards of 00 to have someone else reupholster our boat. As a mediocre seamstress I decided that I would look into doing the job myself.

Materials needed for this project: sharpened heavy duty scissors, marine vinyl, heavy duty leather needles for your sewing machine, heavy duty thread, sheets of foam rubber (1" thick), foam adhesive, stainless steel pins, a durable seam ripper, staple gun, stainless steel staples, long handled screw driver, pliers, power screwdriver, zip lock bags, a marker,

Step 1

First I visited my near-by cloth shop to see what they had available. After checking the Internet for marine vinyl I was surprised to find a wide variety of colors at Hancock Fabrics and the cost was reasonable, better than the online prices. If your cloth shop does not have marine vinyl, ask them if they could order it for you. With that stated let me remind you that dark colors attract and hold the heat. They also fade quickly so I would suggest for your comfort and for the wear choose a light color like cream or white. While there I also purchased heavy duty leather needles for my Singer sewing machine. That's right, I used my old sewing machine to do all the work, but buy at least two packages of the needles for leather. I would also purchase the longest pins the store carries. Look for the foam rubber in the store. Purchase several sheets of the flat 1" thick foam that can be placed over the worn, disintegrating foam that has been exposed to the sun.

Step 2

Remove the seats from the boat and disassemble the seats, such as the seat cushion, backrests and any other covered pieces. Begin by first removing all of the hardware that attached each seat to the boat. Thank goodness for power screwdrivers! Once the hardware is removed from the seat, place them in one of the zip lock bags and label it for each seat. This way you will not lose anything and it will make it easier to put the seats back and ensure a good fit.

Step 3

When the seats are disassembled, the next step is to remove the covers from the seating frame. Turn the seats upside down and remove the fabric by lifting the staples from underneath. In my case my frame was plastic, still in very good shape, and it was relatively easy to remove the staples. Using the pliers and screwdriver, remove the covers by inserting a long-handled screwdriver under the seam and simply lifting the staples out of the frame.

Step 4

The easiest way to reupholster a boat seat is to use the old fabric as a pattern for your new fabric. Using a seam ripper, carefully separate the cover into the pattern pieces. Lay the fabric down on a large flat surface and lay the old fabric face down on top. I then used a marker to trace an outline of the pattern on to the vinyl, but if you feel confident go ahead and cut the new fabric by tracing around the edges of the pattern. I gave myself an additional ½ inch allowance around the outside of each pattern piece. I would also suggest that you make each seat one at a time so that you don't get your pieces mixed up. Pin the pieces together like they came apart and sew the pieces together. The first seat will be the hardest and with each additional seat you will get better with experience. With that in mind, decide which of your seats you want to look the best and do those last.

Step 5

Once you have completed the cover it is time to check the foam. If the underlying foam is in good condition then you are ready to re-cover it. If not, cut away the rotting foam and using foam adhesive glue the old and new foam together trying to maintain the original shape.

Step 6

At this point you are going to need a partner to pull the cover over the foam and pull it tightly back into position. Pull tightly to remove the wrinkles. The vinyl can take a great deal of pulling. Once it is in position, staple with the stainless steel staples. Stainless steel staples are more expensive but they will not rust and ruin your vinyl once you are back on the water. Place a staple at four equal points on the frame, then pull and staple the fabric all around the seat.

Step 7

Replace the seats back into the boat. Step back and admire your handiwork. You have just saved yourself a ton of money. In my case I was able to save approximately 0 by doing it myself.

Step 8

Now it is time to protect your almost new pontoon with the purchase of a low cost, 4 or 5 year warranty pontoon cover. This should eliminate the extra cleaning needed due to the pelican's last fly-over or the rapid deterioration and fading of the vinyl that has been left out in the sun for long periods of time.

If you are an avid water skier, one of the scariest things to try is slalom. The slalom skier has to cross what seems like a huge mound of water behind the boat, which is commonly referred to as the wake. Bumps are a part of water skiing and having a smooth comfortable ride is sometimes difficult to achieve. In order to be successful as a slalom skier you must learn to tackle the wake head on. If you are learning to slalom, or attempting a slalom run, a few helpful techniques to get you safely across the wakes may be in order. Since Power boats come in many shapes and sizes, make sure your towing boat has lots of power, as inadequate power can make slalom difficult. Even rigid zodiac boats can tow slalom skiers if they are adequately powered!

The key in this sport is balance! The way to achieve balance is to make sure your body weight is evenly distributed on your ski. You know you have reached the right balance when you can comfortably remain in the same position for an extended period of time. When your body weight is supported on the inside balls of your feet, this can be a good position, and it helps to keep your knees slightly bent and together. Always point the skis and your body toward the direction you want to go and face the wake head on. When approaching a wake, try to force your lower body and ski through with both feet first. Keep your weight on the balls of your feet and not on your heels. Even though you put your feet first, it doesn't necessarily mean you have to lean back with your upper body.

This technique will come more as you practice, and your ultimate goal is to have your ski go through the water on its edge. With more practice, you will be able to cut through the wake at sharper angles and faster speeds. Remember that your skis will go through the water much faster on their edges rather than flat. Take it slow in the beginning and as your confidence level increases, your ability to tackle the waves will also get better. A good ski boat or even power boats such as a bow rider make excellent towboats.

This is a review of the Eureka Timberline 2 tent. This tent is possibly the world's most popular backpacking tent, having sold over one million units. It is a tent which can be used for 3 seasons and is freestanding. The A frame design of the Eureka Timberline 2 offers a lot of space with excellent ventilation and sleeps two people. This tent is great for casual backpacking as well as a starter tent for those who are brand new to camping.

Before taking a deeper look at the Eureka Timberline 2 tent, I'll highlight some important to think about when choosing a tent.

Selecting the right three season tent is not an easy choice. It is critical to review various features such as size, durability, style, breathability, and resistance to water. It can be really confusing, especially when you think about all the different things involved in selecting the right tents.

2 main features to think about are the weight and size of your tents. 3 season tents can range anywhere from four to nine pounds, and are able to sleep 2-3 people. Ultralight shelters weigh less than three pounds but are only designed for 1 person. Family camping tents can weigh from ten to twenty pounds.

While 3 season tents can be easier to carry on your trip, they may sacrifice some features. The Eureka Timberline 2 is also very light, weighing less than six lbs. There are 2 mesh pockets inside to hold all of your things.

The Eureka Timberline 2 has a big door and 2 big windows, one1 in the back and one on the door. The windows can be shut to provide great ventilation, even in rainy conditions. Dew is diminished by a well-ventilated nylon canopy. The fly and floor are both made from fully-sealed non-stretch polyester, keeping out water even in dreadful weather conditions.

The durability of this tent is great. It stands up to an extreme amount of wear and tear. Some campers have described using this tent for over 20 years with no problems!

I'm writing a review of the Fisher-Price Rainforest Jumperoo. The most important things to get out of the way are this thing is very entertaining for your kids.

It boasts multiple eye-catching toys that will have your children happily distracted. They include a bobbling elephant, a monkey swinging from a vine, a parrot hanging from a bead bar, a clear spinning bead ball, a tiger that plays hide and seek a spinning lizard that makes rattling sounds, a tethered chew toy, and a stack of chips with eye-catching graphics for baby to explore.

It helps encourage healthy development. Moving, spinning, and jumping in a baby jumper enhance large motor skills. Secondly, the variety of textures integrated into the rainforest toys provides tactile stimulation, while the bright colors and fun music engage your child's visual and auditory senses.

This educational system also enhances learning through discovery; baby's actions make things happen, helping him to understand cause and effect. Finally, reaching and grasping onto the baby jumper's toys fosters eye-hand coordination.

Also the Fisher-Price Rainforest Jumperoo is easy to use. It takes about 10 minutes to put together and another few minutes to wash the toys. Remember not to submerge the electronic one and to put 3 AA batteries in it. The box does not include the batteries and you'll need a screwdriver to remove the battery cover.

Also, the large spinning ball has a rainbow sticker along the sides that if you don't dry right away, well, they'll start to wrinkle. The Jumperoo does fold up for easier carrying/stowing but it's not a smooth transition. Its not something you'll want to do all the time.

Some of the key differences with the Rainforest Jumperoo:

- The seat rotates 360 degrees and there are toys all around it, so there is always something new to look at -- and your child can change their view of the room by their self.

- Animals hanging above their head from the "leaves" and the baby will love to look at them and sometimes jumps to try and reach them.

- The music & sounds are pretty cool...like they would play at a Caribbean restaurant.

- The format is round versus the old A-frame style - at first it seems like it will take up even more space, but it actually looks less obtrusive and fits in the room better. It's easier to get by and doesn't trip you!

- There are three hanging springs (versus four) which seems to offer more mobility and freedom of movement.

Suggested changes:

- More options for the height of the seat -- this seems like an easy change the manufacturer could make that would be helpful.

- Some sort of storage option (like a vinyl bag it would fit into) to take to another room, store it for company, etc.

My overall opinion of the Fisher-Price Rainforest Jumperoo is very high. I recommend anyone buy Fisher-Price Rainforest Jumperoo for their babies. I know that it can give your baby good little stretches of entertainment, and you a reprieve so you can take care of a small chore for a few minutes. Plus it will help your baby develop their motor skills in a fun way!
